Sailing Toward Sustainability: MSC Poland Continues Collaboration into 2025
29/01/2025

MSC Poland is delighted to continue its collaboration with the AGH Solar Boat student team from the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow into 2025. In 2024, we proudly supported their innovations in solar-powered technology, highlighting our shared commitment to sustainability and progress, and enabling their success in both competitions and research.
The team’s impressive achievements highlight the impact of this partnership. “Thanks to MSC Poland’s support, we participated in prestigious events such as the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge, where we secured 3rd place, and Sardinia Innovative Boat Week, where we took 1st place,” said Barbara Hajduk, Vice Team Leader of AGH Solar Boat. “This collaboration enables us to achieve our goals while embracing ambitious challenges focused on sustainability and minimizing environmental impact through solar energy technologies.”
Advancing Technology
In 2024, AGH Solar Boat made remarkable strides with their solar boat, Celka. Key advancements included a 15% increase in energy efficiency through redesigned hydrofoil mounts, upgraded propulsion systems that enhanced speed and reduced energy consumption, and optimized steering components for improved reliability and comfort. These innovations, paired with advanced telemetry software and radar-based height measurement tools, enabled Celka to deliver exceptional performance in key competitions, showcasing the team’s commitment to cutting-edge, sustainable technology.
Achievements on the Global Stage
Supported by MSC, AGH Solar Boat earned outstanding results in several prominent competitions:
- Monaco Energy Boat Challenge: 3rd place overall.
- Balaton, Hungary: Recognized for technological excellence.
- Sardinia Innovative Boat Week: 1st place and a special award for their Tech Talk presentation.
- Akkrum, Netherlands: Gained valuable insights for future development.
A Vision for 2025
As the team looks forward, they plan to build a new solar boat, Delta, set to debut at the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge in July 2025. This innovative project will feature an ultra-light hull, modern propulsion system, and steerable hydrofoils to reduce drag and maximize efficiency. With an optimized energy system and solar panels, Delta is designed to operate for hours using just 2 kW of energy at a speed of 30 km/h in full sunlight.
The students aim to achieve world-class results in solar boat competitions, and inspire a new generation of eco-friendly marine technology, helping create a more efficient and sustainable future for marine transport and the planet.
Shaping a Sustainable Future
The collaboration between MSC Poland and AGH Solar Boat showcases the power of partnerships focused on innovation and environmental stewardship. The accomplishments of 2024 lay the groundwork for continued success in 2025 and beyond.
