MSC has successfully moved a 390-tonne hydraulic hammer from Rotterdam to Singapore. Measuring 25.7m long (4.55m wide and 4.82m high), this is the heaviest piece of cargo MSC has ever transported. Its safe delivery demonstrates our Project Cargo team’s expertise, dedication and professionalism.
The giant hammer arrived in Singapore at the beginning of August and will be used to drill foundation poles into the seabed for an offshore windfarm project, contributing to the energy transition in South Asia.
Commenting on the achievement, Ben Collins, Global Project Cargo Manager, MSC, said, “Well done to my team and all who contributed to the successful shipment of this extraordinary cargo. The fact that our customer has entrusted us with such huge and time-sensitive cargo is testament to the confidence in MSC’s ability to deliver it safely to Singapore. We look forward to providing more solutions for even larger and heavier packages in the future.”
Impressive facts about this record-breaking delivery
Managing this kind of shipment is a complex operation involving specialist equipment and meticulous planning. Our in-house team took care of every step, from carrying out an on-site pre-inspection to creating a detailed lifting and lashing plan, taking into account vessel stability and onboard location. Due to the hammer’s immense weight, it had to be delivered to Rotterdam by barge and discharged using some of the heaviest floating cranes available, including the 125-metre high Asian Hercules II.
